One of the first resilient floor covers, it was introduced in the 1800s. Made of linseed oil, gums, cork, or wood dust and pigments, linoleum is no longer manufactured in the U.S. Often the term is used incorrectly to describe resilient floors made of vinyl. Linoleum was laid on either a felt, canvas or burlap backing. It normally comes in rolls of 1/16" to 1/8" thickness, and typically is cemented to the floor system over a felt base layer.
